Dear Kazu,

Thank you for your tenth message. My comments follow.

Prof. Sue Garreis

Dear Professor. Susan Garreis,

Havenft heard from you for a long time.
How did you do over this summer?

>I did very well over this summer. Thank you for asking.
>The attached file, summervacation2012, tells you what I did this summer.
>I enjoyed this summer, especially the time with my grandchildren.
>Sean and Emma came for a few days.
>Sarah and Bella came for a few days.
>Megan came for a long weekend.
>Emily came for a few days before school started.
>All the grandchildren are fun in their different ways.

My summer vacation was okay.
I saw fireworks at a summer festival with friends. I enjoyed a barbecue.

>What was your favorite food at the barbecue?

In the summer festival, there were many people wearing yukata.
I put the URL below for the yukata.
URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yukata

>Thank you for the URL. I love yukatas!
>What color yukata do you usually wear?

Also, there is a Japanese event called "The Bon Festival."
"Bon Festival" is an event to honor the spirits of their ancestors in the customs of ancient Japan.
There was in the river near home an event called "Toro nagashi." It marks the end of the Bon Festival.

>Thank you for the link. I have heard about the toro nagashi. I have never seen the floating lanterns. I think it is a beautiful sight.
>What is the name of the river?
>Is it sad or happy to see the lanterns float away?

Fireworks, which were launched at that time, made a very beautiful large flower bloom in the night sky.

>What a beautiful image! I imagine a garden in the sky blooming to welcome the souls again.

I feel the Bon Festival is a typical thing to happen in the summer in Japan.
Please refer to, so I put the URL below.
Bon Festival URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Festival
Toro nagashi URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%8Dr%C5%8D_nagashi

>Thank you for the links.
>Did you celebrate Obon in July or August or another time?

This year I enjoyed my summer vacation more.
What was summer like Professor Susan?

>Part of it was very hot!
>All of it was enjoyable.
>I read a lot of books.

I look forward to your reply from Professor Susan!
Also, I appreciate your guidance.

>You are most welcome. I appreciate your friendship.

Sincerely yours,

Kazu
